Kindergarten

At the end of Kindergarten each student must be able to perform the following tasks :

Reading:

  • Identify uppercase and lowercase letters with 100% accuracy in random order
  • Be able to identify and say letter sounds with 100% accuracy in random order
  • Identify letter sounds in words with 100% accuracy: beginning sounds/rhyming words
  • Be able to read 100% of the Word Mastery list
  • Writing:
  • Write all of the numbers 0-10 correctly
  • Identify and write basic punctuation marks (. , ? !)
  • Write all of the uppercase and lowercase letters correctly
  • Write first and last name correctly— first letter is capitalized and the remainder are lowercase
  • Starts a sentence with a capital letter
  • Can write eight (8) connected sentences using phonetic spelling

Math Concepts— must identify with 100% accuracy:

  • Shapes
  • Colors
  • Patterns
  • Time- Read digital and numeric clocks to the hour
    Recite the days of the week in order
  • Numbers-Recognize and name the number (0-20) in random order
  • Count to 31
  • Count backwards
  • Identify sets up to 10
  • Use manipulatives to add to 10
  • Use manipulatives to subtract from 10
  • Opposites: Can tell the opposite for a given word: Night/day boy/girl
  • Money: Recognizes and identifies the different coins and bills
    • penny, nickel, dollar
  • Knows the values of coins
    • penny = 1 cent, quarter = 25 cents

First Grade

At the end of First Grade each student must be able to perform the following tasks:

Reading:

  • Students must be reading at or above a 1.5 Reading Level on the STAR reading assessment:
  • Score at or above 70 percentile—(green) on Dibels
  • Use basic elements of phonetic analysis (for example, hear segments, substitutes and blend sounds in words)
  • Use sound/letter relationships, beginning letters and patterns for decoding (sound out words) that were taught in Trophies
  • Use a variety of strategies to comprehend text (predicting, retelling, questioning, discussing)
    Know the main ideas or theme and supporting details of a story or information piece
  • Use specific details and information from a text to answer questions
  • Read fluently grade level texts

Spelling :

Students must be able to spell the 45 Polk County spelling words for first grade and use them correctly in their daily writing

Writing :

  • Form letters (manuscript) correctly
  • Start sentences with capital letters
  • Use space between words, write from left to right, and top to bottom
  • Use appropriate punctuation (. ?)
  • Write a topic sentence restating the prompt, write three detail sentences, and a conclusion

Math:

  • Know their basic addition and subtraction facts (0+0=0 to 9+9=18)
  • Know fact families for 0+0=0 to 9+9=18 Ex: 3+4=7,4+3=7, 7-4=3
  • Understand and solve basic word problems
  • Understand place value for ones and tens
  • Identify monetary value for the quarter, dime, nickel and penny
  • Be able to add several coins together to determine the sum
  • Be able to skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s to 100
    Identify numbers to 100
  • Be able to tell time by the hour and half hour
    Be able to identify fractional parts for halves, thirds, and fourths
  • Be able to recognize the months of the year and days of the week
  • Be able to measure an object with both centimeters and inches
  • Be able to add and subtract two 2-digit numbers without regrouping
  • Be able to identify patterns
  • Be able to identify plane and solid figures
  • Be able to construct and interpret graphs

Second Grade

At the end of 2nd Grade the student will be expected to:

Reading:

  • Be at a 2.5 reading level
  • Score a Level 2 or higher on the SAT 9
  • Use basic elements of phonetic analysis (substitute and blend sounds in words)
  • Use sound/letter relationships, beginning letters and patterns for sounding out words that were taught in Trophies
  • Use a variety of strategies to comprehend text (predict, retelling, questioning, discussing)
  • Know the main ideas or them and supporting details of a story or information piece
  • Use specific details and information from a text to answer questions
  • Read fluently grade level texts

Writing:

  • Form letters correctly and legibly
  • Fill in writing organizers referring to a prompt
  • Use proper spelling
  • Use capital letters properly
  • Use proper punctuation
    Write a paragraph with a topic sentence, three main ideas supported by at least two details each and a conclusion sentence

Math:

  • Score a Level 2 or higher on the SAT 9
  • Score 70% or higher on the Title I Math Assessment
  • Timed Math Drill:
    • Count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
    • Put numbers in order 0-100
    • Be able to identify odd and even numbers
    • Understand the meaning of greater than, less than, and equal to
    • Recognize a fraction
    • Draw appropriate fractions for halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and eighths
    • Recognize types of polygons (closed figures-circle, square, rectangle, triangle)
    • Identify symmetrical shapes (shapes with two equal parts)
    • Read a pictograph, bar graph, and tally marks
    • Identify congruent shapes (shapes that are the same size)
    • Identify vertices and sides
    • Add two digit numbers with regrouping
    • Subtract two digit numbers with regrouping
    • Understand how to tell time (to the nearest quarter hour and five minute intervals)
    • Recognize all coins-half dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies
    • Recognize one and five dollar bills
    • Add coins and currency
    • Count coins and currency to a certain amount
    • Understand what to use when measuring length (cm, meter stick, inches, and yardstick), volume (gallons, quarts, pints, cups)
    • Understand weight and temperature
    • Estimate lengths of objects in comparison
    • Know single addition and subtraction facts from memory 1-12
    • Understand the value of digits in a number up to the hundreds place
    • Identify numbers up to 1,000

Third Grade

At the end of 3rd Grade the student will be expected to:

Reading:

  • Must be at 3.0 reading level
  • Must score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT

Writing:

  • Writing On-going Assessment:
  • Write legibly and with proper letter formations
  • Use capital letters properly
  • Use proper spelling on frequently spelled words
  • Use proper punctuation
  • Write complete sentences
  • Use transition words properly
  • Write 5 paragraphs addressing a prompt (Introduction, 3 Body Parts, Conclusion), scoring a 3.0 or higher

Math:

  • Must score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT
  • Must score 80% or higher on the Title I Math Assessment

Third Grade (con’t.)

Timed Math Drill:

Computation and Number Sense:

  • Recognize place and values of digits (up to and including thousands).
  • Round to the tens, hundreds, and thousands place
  • Basic addition and subtraction facts
  • Basic multiplication and division facts up to 10
  • Multiply 3 digit numbers X a single digit number
  • Fractions: recognize a fraction and what it means, place in size order

Data Analysis & Graphing:

  • How to read a bar graph, pictograph, and line plot graph
  • How to find probability of something or which has the greatest or least chance of happening
  • Median, Mode, and Range

Measurement:

  • Find the perimeter of an object
  • Find the area of a shape
  • Basic knowledge of what to use to measure: length, volume, weight (metric and standard), angles, time and temperature
  • How to tell time to the minute
  • Understand elapsed time

Geometry:

  • Identify types of angles, polygons, and quadrilaterals Congruent shapes
  • Flips, turns, and slides
  • Coordinate graphing (ordered pairs)

Algebraic Thinking:

  • How to read a word problem, come up with an operation, and solve it.

Fourth Grade

At the end of 4th Grade the student will be expected to:

Reading:

Must be at 4.5 reading level
Must score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT

Writing:

Score a 3.5 on FCAT WRITES and Title I 9 week assessments
Write complete sentences with proper capital letters and structure
Fill in writing organizers referring to a prompt
Use transition words, descriptive words
Use some figurative language (similes, idioms)
Use varied sentence structure
Use proper spelling and punctuation
Write a complete 5-paragraph paper (Introduction, 3 Body Parts, and Conclusion)

Math:

  • Must score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT
  • Must score 70% or higher on the Title I Math Assessment
    TIMED MATH DRILL

Computation and Number Sense:

  • Recognize place and values of digits (up to and including millions)
  • Round to the tens, hundreds, and thousands place
  • Basic addition and subtraction facts-(100 within 10 minutes)
  • Add and subtract whole numbers with regrouping
  • Basic multiplication facts
  • Multiply multiple digit number X a single digit number, and introduce 2 digit
  • Simple long division problem
  • Fractions: recognize a fraction and what it means; reduce a fraction and place in size order
  • Add and subtract decimals
  • Convert fractions to decimals; decimals to fractions

Date Analysis & Graphing:

  • How to read a bar graph, pictograph, and line plot graph
  • How to make a basic bar graph
  • How to find the probability of something or which has the greatest or least chance of happening
  • Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Measurement:

  • Find the perimeter of an object
  • Find the area of a shape
  • Basic knowledge of what to use to measure: length, volume, weight (metric and standard), angles, time, and temperature

Geometry:

Fifth Grade

At the end of 5th Grade the student will be expected to:

Reading:

  • Must be at 5.0 reading level
  • Must score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT

Writing:

  • Write complete sentences with proper capital letters and structure
  • Fill in writing organizers referring to a prompt
  • Use transition words, descriptive words
  • Use some figurative language (similes, idioms)
  • Use varied sentence structure
  • Use proper spelling and punctuation
  • Write a complete 5-paragraph paper (Introduction, 3 Body Parts, and Conclusion)

Math

  • Must score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT
  • Must score 78% or higher on the Title I Math Assessment

Computation and Number Sense:

  • Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts
  • Recognize place and values of digits (up to billions and to the thousandths)
  • Round to the tens, hundreds place or any other underlined or designated and the greatest place
  • Add and subtract whole and decimal numbers with regrouping
  • Multiply a two-digit number X a two-digit number
  • Long division problem with remainders
  • Double-digit long division

Fractions:

  • recognize a fraction and what it means; reduce a fraction and place in size order
  • Decimals; how to turn a fraction into a decimal
  • Multiply and divide decimals
  • Percentage; how to turn a decimal into a percent

Data Analysis & Graphing:

  • How to read a bar graph, line graph, and pictograph
  • How to make a basic bar graph and line graph
  • How to fine the probability of something or which has the greatest or least chance of happening
  • Mean, median, mode, and range

Measurement:

  • Find the perimeter of an object
